Growth Characteristics:
Eggplant grows best in warm climates and full sunlight. It thrives in well-drained, fertile sandy loam or silt loam soils.
- Germination Temperature: 24–29°C (emergence in 6–8 days)
- Optimal Growth Temperature: 22–30°C
- Frost Sensitivity: Not tolerant; growth is slowed below 16°C
- Heat Tolerance: Can tolerate up to 35°C, but growth slows
- Soil Requirements: Deep, fertile, well-drained loamy soils
Cultivation Instructions:
- Apply NPK fertilizers during key stages – 3 & 6 weeks after transplanting and every 2–3 weeks during harvesting
- Irrigate regularly, especially during flowering and fruiting stages
- Avoid planting in soil previously used for solanaceous crops (tomato, potato, pepper)
- Fruits are ready for harvest 3–4 weeks after flowering
- Harvest when fruits are firm, heavy, glossy, and have desirable color
