Overview
Vembu is a perennial green fodder crop with multi-cut capacity, lasting 3–3.5 years under good conditions. It thrives throughout the year under irrigation in all districts and during monsoon under rainfed conditions. Rich in protein (20–22%), it is an excellent fodder choice for goats, sheep, cows, rabbits, and poultry, improving weight gain and milk yield.

Pretreatment Recommendations
- Hot water treatment: Heat water to 80°C (remove from flame at boiling point and cool for ~4 minutes), soak seeds for 5 minutes.
- Wash seeds with cold water and soak overnight.
- Shade dry seeds before sowing.
- Alternatively, soak seeds in cow dung slurry for 24 hours before sowing.
