About Strychnos nux-vomica
Strychnos nux-vomica is a tree known for its medicinal importance and distinctive fruit and seeds. Its flowers are white or greenish-white, fragrant, and appear in many-flowered terminal cymes. The calyx is five-lobed, pubescent, and small (about 2 mm), while the corolla is salver-shaped with five lobes and a cylindrical tube that is greenish-white inside, slightly hairy near the base. The fruit is an indehiscent berry, 5–6 cm in diameter, thick-shelled, orange-red when ripe, and filled with fleshy pulp. Seeds are discoid, compressed, concave on one side, convex on the other, and covered with fine grey silky hairs.
