Product Description
Adults may live for more than a year, feeding primarily on host plant juices, nectar, and honeydew secreted by other insects. Under favorable conditions, there may be as many as 8 to 10 generations per year.
Damage Symptoms
- Larval feeding in fruits is the most damaging.
- Mature attacked fruits develop a water-soaked appearance.
- Young fruits become distorted and usually drop off.
- Larval tunnels act as entry points for bacteria and fungi, causing fruit rot.
Life Cycle
- Development from egg to adult: 12 to 28 days in summer (longer in cool weather).
- Pre-oviposition period: 7 to 26 days.
- Oviposition period: 39 to 95 days.
- One female may lay up to 1,000 eggs.
- Eggs laid in young fruits, succulent stems, or cavities made with a sharp ovipositor.
- Pupation occurs in the soil, usually beneath the host, up to 2 inches deep.
Target Plants
Watermelon, Muskmelon, Bottle Gourd, Pumpkin, Cucumber, Ridged Gourd, Bitter Gourd, Tinda, Tomato, and other related crops.
Instructions for Use
- Soak cotton wick in PHERO BC solution.
- Fix the soaked wick in an insect trap.
- Wash hands thoroughly before and after handling.
