TAPAS WHITE GRUB LURE
Product Description
White grub is a highly destructive insect pest found across India, including Maharashtra. The larval stage is the most damaging as it feeds aggressively on crop roots, leading to severe yield loss.
Scientific Classification
- Classical Name: Holotrichia consanguinea, Holotrichia serrata
- Both species are widely distributed across the country, including Maharashtra.
Life Cycle
The insect completes its life cycle in 10–12 months, with four distinct stages:
- Eggs: Female beetles lay 60–70 white-colored eggs after mating, usually in the morning. These hatch in 8–10 days, leading to a rapid increase in population.
-
Larvae (Grubs): Milky white, C-shaped larvae feed on crop roots up to 1 meter underground.
- H. consanguinea: Larval stage lasts 56–70 days.
- H. serrata: Larval stage lasts 121–202 days.
- Pupa: Fully developed larvae pupate in brown earthen cells within the soil. Both species remain in cocoons for 10–16 days before emerging as adults.
- Beetles: Adults feed on leaves of trees such as Shevaga, Neem, Mango, Banana, Acacia, and Chiku. They are nocturnal feeders and females return to soil to lay eggs.
Note: Except for the adult beetle stage, all other life cycle stages occur underground, making pest control at the beetle stage highly critical.
